Quick stepsabout 15 min

  1. 1

Install a player from Google Play. Open the Apps tab, search for TiviMate (or Sparkle TV, XCIPTV or Kodi) and install it.

  2. 2

Add your playlist. Open the player and add your Xtream Codes login or M3U link exactly as your service gave it.

  3. 3

Load the guide. Xtream logins usually include the guide. Otherwise add your service's EPG link and update.

  4. 4

Tune the display settings. Turn on auto frame rate in the player if your TV supports it, and connect by Ethernet if you can.

Google TV is the easiest platform for IPTV. Players like TiviMate, Sparkle TV, XCIPTV and Kodi are all on Google Play, so you install one like any other app, add your service's playlist or login, and you're watching in about fifteen minutes. No developer options, no Downloader, no download codes. This works the same on Google's TV Streamer, TVs with Google TV built in (Sony, TCL, Hisense and others) and Google TV boxes.

Step 1: Install a player

Open the Apps tab, search Google Play and install your choice. Our pick is TiviMate (TiviMate on Google Play). Alternatives and how they compare are in the best M3U player for Android TV.

Check the developer name before installing: TiviMate is published by Armobsoft FZE, XCIPTV by OTTRUN.

Step 2: Add your playlist

  1. Open the player and choose to add a playlist.
  2. Pick Xtream Codes for a server, username and password, or M3U for a single link. Details in M3U vs Xtream Codes.
  3. Type carefully. The Google TV app on your phone has a keyboard that types into the TV, which is far easier than the remote.

Step-by-step for TiviMate: adding a playlist to TiviMate.

Step 3: Load the guide

Xtream logins usually bring the guide automatically. For an M3U link, add the EPG link your service provides. See how to add EPG to TiviMate.

Step 4: Settings that make it smooth

  • Auto frame rate in the player's playback settings, if your TV handles it, for smoother sport.
  • Ethernet: Google's TV Streamer has gigabit Ethernet built in; many other boxes have a port or accept an adapter.
  • Hide channel groups you never watch, so the guide stays fast.
  • Buy Premium in the app if you want recording, catch-up or multiview. On Google TV it's a normal Google Play purchase; see is TiviMate Premium worth it?

Free TV that's already there

Google TV Freeplay is built in, with more than 300 live channels and 10,000+ on-demand titles since its August 2026 expansion. Pluto TV, Tubi and The Roku Channel install from Google Play. See Google TV Freeplay explained.

Profiles and kids

Google TV supports multiple profiles, including kids' profiles with only approved apps. Leave the IPTV player off children's profiles and use its own parental controls for any unsuitable groups; see parental controls.

Storage and memory

Budget Google TV devices have limited storage. Clear old apps, keep few guide days, and hide channel groups you don't use. If recording, use a USB drive on devices that support one, or a network folder.

Casting as a bonus

Google TV devices have Chromecast built in, so family members can send video from phone apps to the TV without touching the remote. Handy alongside your IPTV player.

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Sideloading apps that are already on Google Play.
  • Buying an uncertified "Android TV box" instead of a Google TV device.
  • Leaving huge channel groups visible on budget hardware.

A note on safety

Buy Google TV devices from known brands. Certified devices run Google Play Protect and get security updates; cheap unbranded "Android TV boxes" are where the FBI found pre-installed malware in 2025 (FBI IC3). On a certified Google TV device, you never need to switch Play Protect off or sideload an IPTV app. More in IPTV box vs Firestick.
