Why put a playlist in a spreadsheet
A spreadsheet is the fastest way to handle a big playlist by hand: sort by group, filter out what you don't watch, spot channels with no tvg-id, fix names in bulk with find and replace, or share a clean channel list. Then turn it back into an M3U with the CSV to M3U tab. For quick edits without leaving the browser, the M3U editor does much of the same.
What the columns contain
| Column | From the playlist |
| name | The text after the comma on the #EXTINF line |
| group | group-title (or #EXTGRP) |
| tvg-id, tvg-name, tvg-logo | The matching attributes, used for the guide and logos |
| url | The stream link |
| other attributes | Anything else in the file, like catchup or tvg-chno, gets its own column |
The CSV is saved as UTF-8 with a byte order mark, so Excel shows accents and non-Latin names correctly instead of garbled characters. If you edit in Excel and save, choose "CSV UTF-8" to keep them.
CSV to M3U
Your sheet needs a header row and a URL column. The tool recognises common names (name, url, group, tvg-id, logo), and you can map any column by hand. Rows without a link are skipped. Not sure what the attributes mean? M3U vs M3U8 explains the format, and the M3U checker will validate the result.
Everything runs in your browser; nothing you load is sent to our server unless you load a playlist by URL. Remember that playlist links often contain a username and password, so be careful who you share the spreadsheet with.
Questions people ask
- How do I convert M3U to CSV?
- Load the playlist in the converter, choose CSV, pick the columns you want and download. Each channel becomes a row with its name, group, tvg-id, logo and URL.
- Can I open an M3U file in Excel?
- Not directly in a useful way: Excel shows it as one long column of text. Convert it to CSV first, then open the CSV in Excel and every attribute gets its own column.
- How do I convert a CSV back to M3U?
- Switch to CSV to M3U, load the CSV and check that the name and url columns are mapped. Group, tvg-id and logo are optional. Then download the M3U.
- How do I get just the links from an M3U?
- Choose the TXT format. You get a plain text file with one stream URL per line.
- Is there a size limit?
- Files you upload or paste are limited only by your browser's memory, so 50,000 entries is fine. Loading by URL is limited to 4 MB.
